At the Halifax Humane Society in Daytona, Florida, a very sweet dog had been abandoned outside of the gate on Wednesday morning. The frightened dog had hidden in the bushes and thankfully had not run away or wander too close to the highway.
Rescuers were saddened by the dog’s physical condition as well as her broken spirit and want to let the dog’s former owner know they didn’t have to abandon her:
We want you to know we found her this morning, and she is safe.
We want you to know we will give her the care she has needed for some time. She had breakfast and snacks this morning and is cuddled in on a blanket…

Although the rescue organization acknowledges that surrendering a pet is stressful and heartbreaking, no matter what the situation, pet owners can reach out for help.
we also want you to know we would have taken her in during our operating hours. you did not have to leave her like that…

This sweet gal has been named Duvessa. After breakfast and a well-deserved rest, Duvessa received a bath, was started on treatments for her ear infection, secondary skin infection and eye issues. She will continue needing medicated baths and follow-up veterinarian appointments.
Duvessa would love to be moved to a foster home. In the meantime, she is enjoying her cuddly blanket and all the loving attention she is receiving from everyone.
