Emaciated dog dumped on side of road with her lifeless puppies tossed in grocery bag

Admin

In Berks County, Pennsylvania, a stray, emaciated dog had been dumped along the side of Bellman’s Church Road. On Tuesday morning, Zoe’s House Rescue immediately stepped forward to help.

The sweet dog, now named Sadie, had been near death when discovered. At the veterinarian’s office her pulse was very weak, and her blood pressure was extremely low. Sadie was immediately started on intravenous fluids and glucose, but at the time her chances of survival seemed unlikely. The vets said Sadie “was actively trying to die.”

Originally it was thought that Sadie had been hit by a vehicle, but after her physical examination, it was determined she had been suffering from a uterine infection and mastitis after having recently given birth to puppies. When found, her body was septic, and she had been too weak to even stand.

And then came the question where her puppies had to be, and with hope in their hearts, volunteers and staff searched the area where Sadie had been discovered.

Our President talked to the doctor around 11pm and our President felt there had to be pups somewhere and was going to go look. She spoke with the finder and since the finder lived close, she decided to go back to the location to look for pups. Sadly we found them. Tied up In a grocery bag and all deceased.

Sadie is not out of the woods, but she is improving. She tried to drink water, and although she regurgitated it, she showed interest. Her blood work is better than it was. Her mastitis is breaking through the skin and severely bruised from not being able to nurse her puppies that died. that passed away. She is still not eating or drinking or able to stand up, but she is fighting and improving, and all of her supporters will continue to fight along with her.

She will likely be hospitalized the remainder of the week. We have a long way to go but we feel we have come so far. A foster home is needed to help Sadie once she is discharged from the hospital.

Authorities are now investigating this animal cruelty case and are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information is asked to contact [email protected].
