In Dillon, Montana, the Dillon Police Department received a call on June 1 early in the morning in reference to a baby buffalo lying in the yard located at Legget Street and Johnson Street. Beaverhead County Sheriff deputies, Montana Livestock Inspector and the Montana Game Warden responded to the call.
According to police, it was determined the baby bison was a domesticated pet and not wild. He was captured without incident or injury and returned to his owner.
The Dillon City Ordinance prohibits keeping livestock in the city except for chickens.
Chief of Police Jeremy Alvarez wants to remind people if they come across wild animals anytime of the year, please leave them alone. It’s more than likely their mothers will return for them. If the animal has been left alone for more than 24 hours, notify authorities.
