At the Metro East Humane Society in Edwardsville, Illinois, it’s Wednesday evening and time to close the shelter for the evening. Not one potential adopter came to meet Julio – again.
Today has been the 159th day without a family; sadly it’s actually been since December 2023.
Julio’s adoption fee is $0, and he hopes someone will come and wrap their arms around him and fall in love. He loves car rides with the sunroof open, a cozy blanket fort and lots of kisses.
When asking how Julio is with other dogs, please keep in mind that he has been in a shelter environment for five months. Of course, this isn’t a normal situation for any pet for this length of time; no matter how clean and well cared for he is; a shelter is not a home.
When he first arrived, he thrived in daily play groups, but due to his length of stay and the stress caused by living in a shelter environment, his sociability with other dogs has shifted. He could live with another dog if his new family introduces Julio slowly and with the advice of the shelter’s animal behavior manager. First, and most important is Julio gets the time to decompress and shake the stress of the shelter away.
Julio does not like cats.
