Heartbreaking discovery when abandoned dog guarding bag turned out to include remains of deceased pal

In Savannah, Georgia, the Renegade Paws Rescue is accustomed to finding and rescuing stray and abandoned dogs, but this time was different; and perhaps even sadder than all of the rescue situations through the years.

A call had been received by the rescue organization about an abandoned dog hiding under a home in Savannah, and when the team arrived, they found a six-year-old mixed breed pup named Lloyd. It seems as if Lloyd had been staying at that one spot, underneath the home, for weeks.

Of course, why wouldn’t Lloyd want to be rescued, given food and water and appreciate the tender care he was to receive? But there was something a bit odd about Lloyd; a bag had been left on the sidewalk with Lloyd the same time he appeared. There had been an odor coming from the bag, and no one wanted to get near it.

And when it was time for Lloyd to get into the car and go with his rescuers, however he seemed to hesitate and looked back towards the bag.

Lloyd was spotted sitting next to a trash bag for a week or so. He would run under a nearby house when he was tired or scared. Sadly, we found the remains of a dog inside the trash bag today. Renegade has reported this to the authorities and hoping some houses in that area have Ring cameras.

The remains in the trash bag still had fur and a skull with bones. It is likely with the exceptionally hot and humid temperatures in the area, the dog’s body decomposed quickly. There was no microchip to check for the deceased dog’s identity, but every dog deserves more, and the rescuers gave the deceased pooch the name of Liberty after the subdivision where he was found. His remains were buried under a tree.

No one knows Lloyd’s story for sure.

Lloyd, we don’t know what you have been through or who your friend was, but we can promise you that the rest of your life you will be loved the way that you loved. Your friend is at peace now and you are safe. You are a Renegade now.

The day after Lloyd arrived at the rescue, he had been noticeably depressed as if he was missing someone. He is heartworm positive, is being treated and is slowly settling into his new environment. He loves to play fetch and will be teamed with a foster home until he is ready to find a loving home of his own.

If you would like to help Lloyd, maybe interested in adopting him in the future or just want to help the rescue continue their work, please click here and share Lloyd’s story. Every dog has a story, and our wish is that every story will have a happy ending.
