At the Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Loxahatchee, Florida, the organization couldn’t say no to a recently surrendered 20-year-old Weimaraner, named Dax. Dax had been absolutely heartbroken when dropped off at a shelter; after all he had been with the same family for the two decades of his life.
This is DAX a 20-year-old Weimaraner surrendered by his owner and is now foster care with Big Dog Ranch Rescue. It is unfathomable to think about a loving loyal 20 year old senior dog, at the end of his life span, given up and left confused and heartbroken.
Because the Big Dog Ranch Rescue began as a Weimaraner rescue, this breed holds a special spot in the hearts of the rescuers, and when coupled with the dog’s age, everyone immediately embraced the job of helping Dax find a loving place to enjoy his retirement.
Dax was greeted with lots of love and attention. The organization’s director, Lauree Simmons had set up a bed in her office just for the dog, and it didn’t take long for the senior’s amazing personality to shine again.
Rescue partner, Love4Paws had just the perfect foster home for Dax. He exhibited issues with his back legs, and arrangements were underway to provide the senior pup with some wheels to help his mobility. His foster described him as a sweet and loveable old guy, but they could tell he had been heartbroken.
We will make sure this old man knows love and happiness for every day that he has left, no matter how many days that might be.

Big Dog Ranch Rescue had been inundated with offers to adopt but wanted to be sure to find the perfect fit for such a special pooch and his retirement needs. And then it happened … just like that. Dax was to be adopted by a loving new mom, two dog siblings and a comfortable home to spend the rest of his days and nights in comfort and safety.
Dax adapted perfectly with his new family and his new canine pals, and Dax is very anxious to keep up with the family fun, but at the end of the day he still has age related arthritis and those older bones. Yes, a good night’s sleep is the best therapy.
And Dax is home:
