A sweet, senior Labrador retriever mix named Holly was abandoned by her family after 21 years of age, because her owners stated she was too old and wanted the rescue organization to euthanize her.
According to Wales Online, the dog named Holly, who had been with her previous family her entire life, was brought to the Carrick Dog Shelter in Ireland’s County Monaghan.
She had been surrendered to him by her owners, presumabbly to be euthanized. The warden had been advised the dog was 21 years old, housed outside on a chain and that the owners could no longer care for the dog.

And when Holly arrived, it wasn’t long before the staff discovered how spry this senior was for her age, even though her sight and hearing had lessened through the years. Holly loved to eat and had a great personality. She was extremely friendly, and it was soon determined this old gal had some more living to do.
It wasn’t long before the shelter told her story on Facebook and recounted how she had been dumped because her family thought she was just “too old.” Renewing our faith in the kindness of people, it wasn’t long before adoption offers began to flood in, but in the end, Holly’s caretakers opted for Almost Home Animal Rescue, a charity in Northern Ireland where Holly could receive specialized help for older dogs like her.
