Two year old Maxamillion has been kept in back of shelter over a year and desperately needs help

More than one year ago, Maxamillion arrived at the West Valley Animal Shelter in California. Two local police officers found him on the street, panting, scared and obviously lost or abandoned. Maxamillion was so frightened, he refused to even walk. Sadly, his owner never came to rescue him, and that was on July 18, 2022.

Because the shelter was so overcrowded at the time, the dog was placed in the back area which deprived him of socialization opportunities and didn’t help him overcome his fears. A volunteer began to work with Maxamillion inside of his kennel enclosure bringing the dog cheeseburgers and sliced turkey; the dog responded and slowly approached his new friend, but was still too frightened to leave his kennel.

Fast forward to January 27, 2023, seven months after he arrived at the shelter, another volunteer was able to work with him and coaxed him out of his shelter; Maxamillion did better than expected, although he protested a bit and seemed unfamiliar with a leash. His skills improved as he practiced.

Yes, this now two-year-old dog has made some progress, but getting out once a week for 20 minutes at a time is not enough to help him become “adoptable.” The shelter has now listed his status as “yellow” which means his life is in danger of being placed on the euthanasia list. If he isn’t rescued soon, he will be red alerted with 14 days left to live.

He is a gentle soul who has spent half his young life at the shelter. he needs an experienced foster and rescue who can help him become the happy confident dog he deserves to be.
