Look of bewilderment on shepherd’s face knowing he will ‘die for space’

Admin

A four-year-old friendly German shepherd is about to be euthanized because the Riverside Animal Shelter is overcrowded, and space is needed in order to take in other dogs who will soon likely die the same fate.

Walter is now rated “Code Red”. The shelter has stated he is euthanasia listed because of kennel stress, but the shelter is overflowing with dogs. Adoptable dogs are now being housed in kennels with two or three other dogs. Walter is described as very sweet, and his recent volunteer visitor stated she did not see any evidence of kennel stress. When she visited him, Walter was very sweet and kenneled with another dog, named Snoopy.

Sadly, Walter has been at the shelter since July which is considered a long time to be confined in a shelter.

From our first greeting at his kennel to our first meeting outside, he always showed a gentle demeanor and took treats softly and was eager for affection.
