The San Diego Humane Society has many awesome volunteers, and among some of our favorites are the foster parents who provide temporary housing, care and love for a dog, cat, kitten or puppy until they are ready for a home.

Meet Mocha; this sweet senior arrived at the shelter on May 5, 2024, and she was overwhelmed with her new environment, the strangers and of course – the noise. Fortunately, a compassionate foster stepped forward who opened her home and her heart to this sweet dog as the calm environment of a loving home have definitely helped her to adjust.

What a difference Mocha’s foster mom made in her life. Her personality began to shine.

Meet Mocha, a dog with a heart as warm as her name suggests. She carries an aura of sweetness that can melt even the coldest hearts. Her friendly nature is infectious, spreading joy wherever she goes. Mocha’s gentleness is her defining trait, making her a perfect companion for both the young and the old

Mocha loved to snuggle in her adorable sweater and has graciously accepted lots of love and cuddles. All she needed was time to feel safe and secure in a calm environment.

She has a knack for understanding emotions, always there to provide comfort with her gentle presence. Mocha loves simple pleasures – a sunny spot to nap, a good belly rub, and a game of fetch. She’s a fast learner, eager to please, and has a lot of love to give…

Like Mocha, many of the animals in local shelters could benefit from a break from the shelter. If you’d like to make a life-changing difference for a shelter pet, sign up to foster a pet. The joy to be experienced when one of your foster pets is adopted far outweighs the heartbreaking moments you have when letting them go.
