Let me introduce you to Wynona; her friends tell us she is 37 pounds of “pure sugar” with a tail that takes no time off from wagging – even on her worst days. At PAWS Chicago, Wynona arrived as an emergency case last week, after she reportedly fell from a third story balcony just a few days after she had been adopted from a local shelter.

It had been Chicago Animal Care and Control who notified PAWS Chicago for help. From the fall, Wynona’s leg broke in several places and needed to be amputated. And as volunteers from PAWS arrived to pick her up, Wynona’s tail just kept wagging in spite of the incredible pain she must have been experiencing. She was also running a fever and in desperate need of fluids.
Once her condition was stabilized, her surgery was performed successfully. Within 24 hours, Wynona was already “hamming it up.”

she had so much life in her, wagging that tail even harder and climbing in your lap before you even had a chance to sit.

Although Wynona has made recovery look so easy, she still has a way to go before she can be ready for a new family to love her, but for now she could certainly enjoy being at home with a foster family.
