Family mistakenly took home wrong pup from doggy daycare

Oh boy! Can you imagine taking home the wrong dog from daycare? In Burke, Virginia, it had to have been a “ruff” day when the family brought home the wrong golden retriever from a local doggy daycare center.

According to Fox News, Kebby Kelley and her husband Joe, own a one-and-a-half-year-old golden named Ehmi. The dog had been going to daycare at the Affectionate Pet Care in Fairfax, and Ehmi loved her experiences there. She is so enthusiastic when she arrives, Ehmi literally drags her owners by her leash to inside of the building, obviously where the fun begins!

Life for Ehmi had obviously been going splendidly, that is until last week when Kebby decided to groom Ehmi there, and asked her son to pick up the dog. Later, the family did notice something different about their dog’s coat, but thought it had been because of the haircut and grooming, but that was only the beginning.

Apparently, the cats at the Kelley home didn’t like the dog, and a neighbor who has a particular connection with Ehmi was just ignored as the dog walked by.

Then there was this business about kisses. Ehmi normally didn’t lick faces, but this time the dog both licked and nibbled on Joe’s face – even leaving a small mark on Joe’s nose. Their trainer noted a difference too, but didn’t pick up on the fact that it was a different dog.

Maybe something happened at daycare Kebby thought? She watched how “her” dog was acting rather anxious and panting heavily, prompting the woman to take the dog to the emergency veterinarian. And it was then the family became suspicious that this wasn’t their dog. A check of her microchip confirmed the dog’s identity.

The family immediately contacted Affectionate Pet Care, and the staff admitted Ehmi has a “twin” at daycare named Maddy. Yes, the owners were able to exchange dogs, and everything turned out fine.

The two owners do think the dogs are related somewhere in their pedigree and are considering having the dogs’ DNA done to find out if the dogs are related. And yes, the dogs will both be returning to daycare to hang out together, but Ehmi does have a birthmark on her tongue, and the family will be sure to check it when they pick up their dog at daycare.
