Big boys have hearts that break too, and this gentle Mastiff, named Odin, at Manhattan’s New York City Animal Care Center is scheduled to be euthanized at any time now.
Here is what his advocate reported:
We can all agree Odin is the most handsomest big boy at the shelter right now, weighing in at a healthy 115 lbs. He might look fearless, but on a recent walk this big boy was afraid of a bicycle and hid behind the handler (the best he could anyway) imagine how funny that must have looked?
Not much is known about Odin’s past. He was found tied up in a park, and this supersized boy with a big heart, feels a bit overwhelmed at the shelter. Odin appears to be dog friendly, is timid, but does warm up to people with a slow approach. He also walks well on leash.
Odin has pneumonia, so he needs out of the shelter as a medical rescue since they are not able to provide adequate intensive care.
Odin accepts gentle petting and likes baby food. He is low energy, and therefore could easily fit in with apartment life in the city or a farm house in the country. It’s Odin’s heart that is breaking, but before long, and this afternoon in particular, this sweet dog’s life is slated to end.
Odin’s plight is an emergency. Follow rescue efforts here.
