In Rajasthan, India near Badi, a group of rescuers from Animal Aid Unlimited had been contacted by villagers in the area, concerned about a neglected donkey whose ear was so badly infected from the inside out that the infection had drawn thousands of flies. The donkey was so agitated as he stood alone on the side of the road, constantly shaking his head, neighbors were just heartbroken.
Blood soaked the poor animal’s jaw and his upper shoulder, which drew even more flies. How much worse could his suffering get?
Rescuers were able to lead him to a trailer and bring him back to the hospital; they named him Floppy, and immediately the treatments began to help this donkey feel better.
Floppy’s treatment began with pain medicine and a thorough cleaning. Once the flies were gone, the stress in Floppy’s face began to subside.
Much of the muscle and skin had already been eaten away by the ravaging infection and the constant fly strikes; who could even imagine the thousands of flies tormenting his every move no matter where he tried to hide to feel some relief.
Floopy, however turned out to be an amazing patient. Although he still had to be in pain, and although he was frightened by the new faces and all the procedures being administered to him, the donkey stood completely still and made the irrigation, the antibiotic treatments and the bandaging, easier for the staff.
The wound took two months to heal; in the interim, Floppy made friends with another donkey at the rescue organization, and life started improving little by little every day.
Months of daily dressings, and soon the scar tissue had completely sealed the initial wound. Check out the video for the awesome results:
