In Cleveland, Texas, on this very hot and humid Sunday morning, temperatures had already soared to 86 degrees, and with the heat index, it felt like a sweltering 99 degrees.

What would you have done if you opened your front door and saw a mother dog and her tiny puppies on your porch -waiting and hoping to be helped? This stray mother dog brought her six sick and injured puppies to someone’s doorstep. The homeowner was afraid of dogs, but she was kind enough to post the situation on social media and ask for help.

It was ThisIsHouston who stepped up to help.
Yes, it was the mother dog who tried so hard to care for her puppies. She searched everywhere for a safe, dry place to nurse and keep her puppies dry, and once she found the porch where she could lean into a wall and a porch covering for some safety from the torrential rains, she picked up each puppy one by one, including the two little ones barely clinging to life, and placed them on the porch. She was either very intuitive or very lucky; it was at this particular home where help would be summoned.

You tried momma, you tried so hard for your babies.
You did good, momma.
Your black baby passed away while waiting for help to come. We’re so sorry, momma. You did all you could for him. We’re sorry we were too late.

Once, ThisIsHouston arrived and were able to rush the entire family to the emergency veterinarian hospital, they found out just how critical the puppies actually were. They all had wounds and maggots. One tiny girl was worse than the rest.

We weren’t sure she was going to make it, but we were going to try. You were terrified, understandably. A lot of people in Cleveland are not kind. You probably never knew a gentle hand.

Tragically, the second puppy lost her struggle to live. Everyone is so sorry; sorry for whatever happened to these babies, sorry nobody was able to help sooner, and so sorry help arrived too late for two of the puppies. This isn’t how they should have entered or left this world.

The other four puppies are going to be survive. Their fearless mother found them safety, and now ThisIsHouston is here to help care for this entire family.
You can rest now, momma. Safety, at last.
