At the NAWS Humane Society of Illinois, a heartbreaking video of Sampson being returned to the shelter after only a week quickly went viral with 347,000 views; with most comments agreeing that rescued dogs need time to decompress and to finally feel they are accepted and loved. Really, how does anyone get to know a rescued dog in a week?
Just check out Sampson’s short clip, and we can only imagine how sad this poor guy felt.
As described on the rescue organization’s Facebook page, Sampson has a lot of energy and needs a lot of outlets to get it out. He needs a family willing to work on getting his energy out and work on his manners. He gets nippy when he wants to play and is mistaken for him being mean. He just needs a family willing to work on redirecting his nipping and getting all of his energy out.
And now he’s back at the shelter; just heartbreaking.
Sampson isn’t the only dog who has faced major disappointments, but staff, volunteers and rescuers continue to help these dogs, and we can hope there will be loving homes.

Meet Pop Tart; he was left tied to a post outside of the rescue. He’s three years old and is friendly, loyal and gentle.
Parsnip was found in a trash bag.
Cher was a stray.
Halo’s owner couldn’t care for him.
Ace was homeless. When he first arrived about a year ago, he was withdrawn and scared. Since then his beautiful personality has emerged, and the staff describe him as “sweet as can be.”
Peppermint lost her home because her owner wanted to have a baby, and there was no room or need for this special pup. The nine-year-old Boxer mix arrived at the shelter four years ago and was adopted, but within the last few months has been returned. Sadly, she needed to have her one eye removed, and although she is loving and sweet, would do best as the only pet in the home.
