In Asheville, North Carolina, the Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, tried their best with a most valiant effort to save the life of four-month-old Peaches who was so weak when she was found, she had to be carried into the emergency veterinarian hospital this week.
It had been a Good Samaritan who rescued her from the horrible conditions and brought her to the rescue when it was clear she was in worse shape than originally thought. Evergreen Veterinary Hospital didn’t hesitate to get Peaches in for emergency care.
Peaches arrived with mild hypothermia, a mild cough, Demodex mange, Coccidia and an elevated white blood cell count. Most of her fur was missing, her skin was terribly infected and for her entire short life, had likely never been cared for, fed properly or given any basic veterinarian care.
Rescuers thought Peaches had a chance to heal, and as recently as three days ago, on Thursday, thought the puppy’s prognosis had been looking better.
Sadly, all that is wished for doesn’t necessarily come true. It was on Sunday night that Peaches took a turn for the worse after going into acute kidney failure:
Devastated doesn’t even begin to describe our grief. We are sorry to share that Peaches passed away in her sleep last night. Her veterinary team did everything they could, but her body just couldn’t hold on.
We know your grief will be as heavy as ours, we all wanted her to live and have the life she deserved.
We eased her pain, showed her love, and in return, she showed us love back. She showed us tiny glimmers of what could have been, playing with a toy, giving kisses, and showing us her goofy personality.
Rest well, Peaches, we will never forget you.
