Kind action from quiet heroes leads to rescue of starving stray wandering in middle of nowhere

Admin

No one knows how long a starving, stray puppy had been wandering in the middle of nowhere in Florida Everglades, a city in Collier County, Florida. A rescue volunteer had reported seeing the dog after someone posted photos of a starving pup on social media.

“We were driving on Loop Road this morning gator spotting and came across this poor dog that is starving. We cautiously approached him with some dog biscuits, but he would not come close. We left the dog treats which was all we had with us and drove to to see if he would come back out, and he did. …”

The rescuer, Bobbie Lee Davenport, contacted the Miccosukee Police Department, and an officer was able to pick the dog up. Guardians of Florida Rescue stepped forward to help; the dog, now dubbed Charlie Baby was transported to the emergency veterinarian for life saving treatment.

(NOTE: The tag and collar were brought from Bobbie to transport him – he was not found with a collar and tag)

We visited our boy at the vet and he is truly sweet as can be. How someone can throw him away like trash is unfathomable, yet we continue to see it on a daily basis in South Florida – amazing, loving, innocent animals just cast aside. His list of issues includes flea and parasite infested, anemic (but thankfully not to the point a transfusion is necessary), clearly malnourished and emaciated, wounds and scars all over but, grateful to hear that he is heartworm negative.

Charlie Baby is extremely sweet; he definitely sports a “happy tail” even though it has open wounds, and as his tail gets going at super puppy speed, blood spatters everywhere. He will remain at the veterinarian hospital another night to continue to be closely monitored, and it is hoped he can be released on Saturday.

If you’re wondering why he has been named Charlie Baby … the rescue organization tells us he closely resembles two other dogs rescued in similar horrific conditions – Charlie and Charlie Brown, so it’s only fitting to carry on the tradition and name his Charlie Baby.

We will have updates as they are released, but meanwhile get well soon sweet puppy.
