With just a few days left in 2023, even though the cases of animal cruelty never seem to stop, it’s the daily fight of making a difference in the life of a neglected or tortured pet one by one that counts. Take for instance, the rescue of Max; the resilient survivor, who faced unimaginable cruelty, but with the help of ThisIsHouston, survived and is on the way to a wonderful new life.
Max was rescued the day after Christmas from a local Houston animal shelter. He had been shot through the face, and the miraculous part – the bullet had exited through his nose.
Although Max still isn’t feeling great, he is now safe and warm, and the people around him are making sure he is well fed and loved. According to the rescue organization, Max underwent surgery to close the bullet wound in his nose and to extract some teeth that had been moved sideways and damaged by the bullet.
He has four wounds from the bullet; three have been surgically closed, and the fourth was left open.
There is some “communication” between one of the bullet paths and his nasal passage. When the vet flushed the open wound, saline was coming out his nose. As of now, we are waiting and hoping that scars up and heals itself, but he may need surgery in the near future.
Max remains in foster care and slowly will feel better. We can’t wait to hear more of his updates.
