Despite being a rescue organization primarily dedicated to Cane Corsos, they simply couldn’t turn away a dog as sweet and deserving as Guy.
He possessed an incredibly gentle nature, was eager to greet every new person he encountered with a wagging tail and hopeful eyes, and it wasn’t long before a family came forward, expressing their desire to adopt him. Guy, with his intuitive sense, likely felt that familiar spark of hope, the anticipation of a new beginning.
However, Guy’s initial good fortune was tragically short-lived. Only a few weeks after his adoption, he was returned to the rescue. The explanation given to the heartbroken rescuers was that his new owners had become fearful of him and ultimately felt they didn’t like him, a devastating blow to Guy’s trust and sense of security.
To compound the unfortunate situation, Guy had another potential adopter waiting in the wings. In a well-intentioned but ultimately misguided decision, the rescue had initially chosen the family that ultimately returned him, a decision they deeply regretted.
“I had two applicants for Guy and I initially chose the wrong family! I adopted him last week, and he just didn’t fit in. I called the other applicant, apologized and he was devastated,” the California rescue shared with raw honesty on Instagram, acknowledging their error and the ripple effect it had caused.
Immediately recognizing their mistake, the rescue contacted the other applicant, a kind man named Abraham, and explained the entire unfortunate situation with heartfelt apologies. Fortunately, Abraham’s desire to adopt Guy remained steadfast. He hadn’t changed his mind and was, in fact, even more eager to meet the dog he had hoped to welcome into his life. Without hesitation, he rushed to the rescue to finally meet Guy.

Before being rescued by West Coast Cane Corso Rescue, Guy had been surrendered to a high-euthanasia shelter by his previous owners, his future hanging precariously in the balance. From there, this striking Husky pup was moved to a questionable rescue operation in a remote area of Northern California, where he was housed alongside more than thirty other Huskies in what tragically became a high-profile animal cruelty case that spanned months.
Despite enduring such prolonged neglect and mistreatment, Guy remarkably never displayed aggressive behavior or showed overt signs of trauma. He possessed wonderful manners from the very beginning, a testament to his inherent good nature, and it was only a matter of time before someone truly saw the wonderful dog he was beneath his difficult past.
“He has exceptional manners, he enjoys nice food, he is house trained, crate trained, has a recall, doesn’t run away, and has solid obedience training behind him,” the rescue proudly shared, highlighting Guy’s wonderful qualities and the ease with which he integrated into their care.
Today, Guy and Abraham share beautiful moments together, embarking on exciting adventures daily. Guy’s devoted new owner makes sure to keep his rescuers updated, sharing heartwarming stories and expressing their immense happiness in their newfound companionship.
