What ended in a collision, CBS News reported a police pursuit on Thursday afternoon in San Bernardino County. California Highway Patrol officers (CHPS) spotted a silver pickup truck break a car wash gate, and when they attempted to stop the driver, the suspect refused to stop, resulting in an extended car chase.
As the chase continued, the driver reportedly sideswiped another vehicle, but continued to evade the officers and was reported traveling more than 80 miles per hour. It had been during the chase that a dog could be seen either falling, jumping, or being thrown from the vehicle.
The chase ended when the suspect had a head on collision with another vehicle, however he still refused to leave his truck. The victim involved in the crash of his car was able to exit and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The suspect was struck with a non-lethal projectile and later removed from the truck.
Fortunately, officers were able to swerve during the pursuit to avoid hitting the dog. He has been reported safe and is currently being cared for at the Inland Valley Humane Society. Updates to follow.
