There is no acceptable excuse why any owner would abandon their dog when moving away. One can only shed tears and feel the heartbreak, thinking about this poor dog in rural Georgia, watching her family pack up their clothes, the children’s bikes and the furniture into a U-Haul truck. And when it was time for the family to pile into the car, the family dog was sent back to sit and “wait” on the porch; moments later the family was gone.
In one corner of the property was the trash piled up and left behind, and on the porch was Lucy – the family dog left behind just like the trash. Lucy didn’t know what happened, but she waited. Surely she thought her family would return, except they never did.
It had been Audray Luck, the founder of Luck’s Rescue, who had been told by a realtor friend about Lucy. The owners had moved, and there was no doubt loyal Lucy just waited, not knowing what day or time it was, how long she had been alone and why her family had not returned home. While visiting the property in late December, Luck found Lucy; she was full of fleas in freezing conditions with no food or water.
And so the two met, and they made friends quickly. Days later, Lucy had been to the rescue’s veterinarian, sent to a groomer for a needed spa day and traveled on to her foster home.
