A Heartbreaking Discovery on Facebook

Caryn, a dedicated rescuer with the Humane Society of Mason County (HSMC), stumbled upon a distressing Facebook post about a group of dogs confined to an abandoned property. Knowing she had to act, Caryn visited the property herself after noticing the authorities had not yet arrived. The scene she encountered was heartbreaking, with dogs living in squalid conditions.

Rescuing Six Dogs from Squalor

The dogs were found in a dilapidated, muddy backyard littered with trash and hazardous items. There were six dogs in total, including a bonded pair named Hank and Scooby. With the subsequent arrival of authorities, Caryn received permission to organize their removal. She quickly secured temporary housing for all the dogs: one went to People for Animal Care and Kindness, while the remaining five were taken in by HSMC. Brutus quickly found a foster home, while Scooby, Hank, Tucker, and Ringo went to a loving foster mom named Donna.

The Challenges of Timid Dogs

As time passed, Tucker and Ringo found permanent homes. However, Scooby and Hank, due to their traumatic past, remained timid and struggled to trust humans. They thrived in the company of other dogs, who helped boost their confidence. The rescuers remained patient and optimistic, believing that the right families would eventually come along.

From Timidity to Triumph: Scooby’s Adoption and Hank’s Hope

After 182 days with HSMC, Scooby was finally adopted. He found a loving family with a canine brother, who provided him with the comfort and security he needed. This left Hank as the last of the rescued group. Having made significant progress in his foster home, gaining confidence daily, everyone at the rescue was optimistic that his forever home was near. He is described as incredibly polite when playing with his older canine sister (who has arthritis) and enjoys running around the yard with younger playmates. The Humane Society of Mason County is actively seeking a loving family for Hank, confident that he will thrive in the right environment. His journey is a testament to the dedication of rescuers and the resilience of dogs who have endured hardship.
