Utah firefighter jumps in freezing pond to rescue growling dog

A family dog who found himself in an untenable position stuck in an icy pond was rescued by a Clearfield, Utah firefighter, even though the dog growled and snarled.

According to Fox News, it had been firefighter Logan Hadley who ventured out into the freezing water to rescue the dog, named Bob. In a video posted on the North Davis Fire District Facebook page, a black dog can be seen stuck in the frozen water desperately trying to stay afloat.

Onlookers called the fire department for help, and several firefighters rushed to the scene to help. There would be no other way to save the dog except to enter the freezing water. The video shows the rig the firefighters put together allowing Hadley to safely enter the area where Bob was bobbing up and down trying to get up on the ice to save himself. Hadley inches out on the ice and plunges into the water when Bob gingerly approaches his rescuer, but perhaps not so trusting for awhile.

bob the dog loves the water, but the ice shelf prevented him from being able to get out after his polar plunge.

After Bob’s successful rescue, people congratulated the firefighters for helping. The fire department does want to warn people to keep their pets on a leash and away from ponds and rivers. Although it may appear the water is frozen, there’s always a chance, as what happened to Bob, that a dog can fall in.

Bob was a bit chilled from his failed adventure, but is reported to be back with his family and doing fine.
