At home I am always treated coldly, is it because I am ugly?

Pen was a dog of unremarkable appearance. His fur was a drab, muddy brown, and his eyes were small and unassuming. He was a creature of habit, content to spend his days curled up in a sunbeam, watching the world go by.

At home, Pen was often overlooked. His owners, a busy couple with demanding jobs, had little time for him. They would toss him a bone and a pat on the head, but their affection seemed perfunctory, as if he were merely a necessary inconvenience.

Pen often wondered if his lack of attention was due to his appearance. He had heard other dogs boast about their sleek coats and sparkling eyes, and he couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy. Perhaps, he thought, if he were more beautiful, his owners would love him more.

One day, a stray dog wandered into the neighborhood. Her fur was a shimmering silver, and her eyes were as bright as stars. The other dogs were immediately drawn to her, vying for her attention. Pen watched from a distance, feeling a twinge of jealousy.

Despite his feelings, Pen was a gentle soul. He approached the stray cautiously, offering her a friendly wag of his tail. To his surprise, the stray returned his greeting, and they soon became fast friends.

As Pen spent more time with the stray, he realized that beauty was not everything. The stray, despite her stunning appearance, was often lonely and misunderstood. She had been abandoned by her previous owners and had learned to trust very few people.

Through his friendship with the stray, Pen learned to appreciate the simple joys of life. He discovered that love and companionship were far more important than outward appearances. And though he may never be the most popular dog in the neighborhood, he was content with his humble life and the friendship of his loyal companion.
