Young Doberman mom slated for euthanasia after puppies adopted at crowded shelter

Admin

What about Kiara? This beautiful, 11-month-old Doberman had been surrendered to the Carson Animal Shelter in January 2024 with her four tiny one-month-old puppies because her owner was overwhelmed. Of course, we shake our heads in disbelief wondering why had Kiara been spayed when she was younger would have avoided this situation?

As soon as Kiara’s puppies were old enough, they were all adopted, but Kiara was left behind. And now she shivers with fright and loneliness in a cage at the shelter; likely not too much longer before she is slated for euthanasia.

This is what we know about Kiara: A5602777

When approached at her kennel, she cowered; she had a closed mouth, soft eyes, ears back, and a lowered tail with no wag. After briefly sniffing the runner’s hands, she retreated back to her bed keeping her distant. It wasn’t difficult, however to leash Kiara, but she was afraid to leave her kennel until receiving gentle guidance.

Kiara was quite shy in the playground, was easily abled to be handled on leash and mostly bypassed the neighboring dogs and was then able to relax. She is listed for adoption to the general public.

The things we do to dogs is hard to wrap my brain around. This girl is still a baby herself but was allowed to get pregnant. Then she and 4 of her puppies were surrendered to a shelter. Tough for any dog, tougher yet for a mama dog with littles she is worried about caring for and protecting with the sound and smell of fear and stress all around. And if that is not enough, as is often the case, her puppies were all adopted but she has been left behind. Stressed, afraid, alone and no doubt missing and worrying about her pups. Dogs are arguably the most loyal creatures. They love us without condition. They love us on our worst days. They love us when we don’t deserve it. And this is how we treat them. Without a doubt we do not deserve these amazing beings.

That said, who can be a hero and turn her world around?
