A nine-month-old puppy was shot multiple times because a homeowner caught her pawing in his garbage can, scavenging for food. The disturbing incident occurred in North Carolina; what a sad world we live in when an innocent little dog, who doesn’t know any better, is mercilessly attacked.
The puppy, now dubbed Hope, has been saved by Rescue Dogs Rocks NYC. Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of the rescue organization posted an update to Hope’s terrible plight.
“This makes up sick to our stomachs. Hope had been a stray in NC but has now been taken in by one of our fosters there. Hope is very lucky to be alive as she was shot multiple times!!!
Her back leg bore the brunt of the attack & it is shattered per our vet who she saw late today. They are going to try to splint it & try to save it, but it will likely need to be amputated. They cannot repair the fracture due to infection, hardware is not an option.”
As so often is the case, Hope is an extremely sweet dog. It is truly unfortunate that the heartless person who shot a puppy just because she was hungry, couldn’t have just offered her some food or called animal control. There are other options besides shooting first. After all, she is just a puppy.
Hope is safe and will never have to dig in someone’s trash for food nor will she ever face harm again.
