Senior Lab no longer ‘left behind’ is the most grateful little dog

Although the Carson Animal Care Center is closed to the general public because of the coronavirus outbreak, it didn’t stop the owners of a 13-year-old Labrador retriever from surrendering him on Sunday.

#A3523351 I’m an approximately 13 year old male Lab Retriever. I am already neutered. I have been at the Carson Animal Care Center since 3/15. I will be available on 3/15. You can visit me at my temporary home at C214. My former family who owned me for more than 5 years had to give me up because they couldn’t afford the care I need. But they said that I spend most of my time indoors. I do not show interest in small children. I am housetrained. I am good on a leash. I seem to get along well with dogs.

By Tuesday, Leave No Paws Behind, Inc had stepped up to help. Along with Cathi Perez who quickly swept him up into her arms, “Paddy” was on his way to the Pet Doctors of Sherman Oaks. A hospice foster home had already been secured; it was time for Paddy to discover kindness, love and how his life matters.

“He just knows he is no longer alone, loved… Doc tells us he is vision impaired, deaf and emaciated. Now what we are not sure of, and this broke my heart to hear, is whether or not he is truly neurological OR if his unsteadiness is coming from his lack of nourishment and weakness. Now he may be in kidney and or liver failure,” the rescue organization posted an update on Tuesday evening.

This morning Paddy’s liver enzymes were only slightly elevated. He also had calcium buildup in his urine, indicative of kidney stones – his new diet has been started. In addition, he is estimated to be 14-years-old and may be suffering from dementia.

The good news – Paddy is headed to his foster home where he will never worry about being abandoned or going hungry again. Welcome home Paddy; that’s how they “roll at Leave No Paws Behind.”
