In Des Moines, Iowa, a $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person involved in the case of abandoning nine tiny kittens in a box and then setting fire to it. Two of the kittens were seriously injured; the other kittens are expected to be fine.
According to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, the kittens believed to be from four to six weeks of age were discovered late last week while authorities had been investigating a fire at a homeless camp.
The two kittens, named Greta and Hans, have been receiving critical surgery to remove the dead tissue from their burns, make them more comfortable, and help their wounds heal. They are suffering from burns over much of their bodies, including all four paws, ears, noses and lips. Greta is suffering from the most severe and extensive burns. She is lucky to have made it out when she did.
The kittens are recovering in an incubator at the organization’s Miracle Medical Ward where they are being kept warm and comfortable. Both kittens are improving, although they remain on medications for pain and their infections.
