In Queens, New York, in a disturbing turn of events on Monday, police discovered thirteen dogs and cats living in horrific conditions during a raid on a Queens home. The NYPD Grand Larceny Squad executed a search warrant at the Beach 44th St. residence, uncovering not only animal cruelty but also stolen goods and drugs.
According to the Daily News, authorities described the living conditions at the home of Cory Elder, 41, for the pets as “deplorable.” The animals, a mix of 11 dogs and two cats, were reportedly emaciated and malnourished, with some confined to cages so small their ribs protruded The dire state of the pets suggests they had been neglected for an extended period.
The New York Police Department later reported the animals were “possibly stolen.”
Thirteen malnourished & neglected dogs & cats found in deplorable conditions were rescued today by detectives from the Grand Larceny Squad. A stolen German Shepherd, drugs, and stolen equipment were also recovered. All animals are now being evaluated at the ASPCA.

While the investigation’s primary focus was suspected stolen goods and narcotics, the deplorable treatment of the animals became a significant concern. According to reports, police found an unspecified amount of heroin and fentanyl alongside the stolen items.
Elder faces charges of drug possession, possession of stolen property and animal neglect.
The rescued animals were taken into the care of a local animal shelter. Their current condition and their future placement are yet unknown. The rescued animals are under the care of the ASPCA.
