A Texas based rescue organization stepped up to help a 15-year-old dog after an employee of a local Houston hotel called for help thinking a defenseless dog’s owner had abandoned her. A volunteer from ThisIsHouston stepped up to help.
“The owners are homeless and bouncing around with no place to call home. We also aren’t sure how long little Nikki has been suffering. The woman had her since she was a puppy. She was very upset,” the rescue organization posted on their Facebook page.
Sadly, Nikki has a softball sized tumor on her liver that is likely cancerous. Because of her age, she is not a good candidate for surgery.
On Friday, the group posted the sad update on Nikki:
“We think we are reaching end of life for her. She’s throwing everything she eats up and she sits standing up until she falls asleep. Her tummy is getting bigger. We don’t believe her quality of life is great right now. We learned she has never eaten dog food and has never had her own bowl. She ate what her humans ate, which was always human food. And she ate either on the floor or out of discarded containers.”
And so for the weekend, Nikki will be spoiled with love, tasty treats and lots of attention. She won’t be allowed to suffer, and a decision will be made if a humane choice is necessary.
