In Port Jefferson, Long Island, a deer was spotted in the Long Island Sound with a paint bucket stuck on top of its head on Saturday. Strong Island Animal Rescue League was called to the scene to help.
According to the non profit animal rescue, Frank Floridia tried to swim out to reach the deer, however the water was too cold. The frightened deer was spinning around in circles in the water when a nearby boater joined in the rescue mission and helped Floridia out of the water.
As the boat got closer to the deer, Floridia was able to reach out to get a hold of her against the boat and returned to shore. At that point the deer stopped fighting – as if she knew she was being helped.
He was then able to dislodge the bucket and guided the doe to the shore where she ran away the moment her feet hit the dry ground.
Check out the video the group posted. It was a happy event – and we all can use a reason to smile.
