The New Year 2021 brings good news to Charlotte, North Carolina lost, stray and unwanted pets. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Animal Care and Control (CMPD) has achieved a 90 percent save rate, which means they are now designated as a “no-kill” shelter.
According to the shelter’s social media page, volunteers fostering and adopting pets have been at an all-time high as the pandemic has forced more people to work from home. The shelter had set a goal to save 80 percent of the animals that came through their doors, but the numbers have exponentially increased. Nine years ago, the number was only at 35 percent.
The shelter rescues and takes in abandoned and/or strays from across the Queen City. The milestone was shared with the public online with a celebration showing confetti and signs.
If only all shelters could do this well. Volunteer or donate to a shelter near you and make the difference in a pet’s life.
