Nine-month-old Bengal tiger missing for nearly a week in Houston found safe

Admin

On Saturday, the nine-month-old missing Bengal tiger spotted in a Houston neighborhood was found and transported to BARC, the city’s animal shelter.

According to the Houston Police Department‘s Commander Ron Borza, the owners of the tiger have been identified as Gia Cuevas and her husband, Victor Hugo Cuevas. The tiger appeared to be in good health and is expected to be transferred to a wild animal sanctuary on Sunday.

Gia Cuevas surrendered the tiger to police and is not facing any charges at this time. In Houston, it is illegal to own a tiger. Her husband was the last person seen with the tiger and was taken into custody on Friday pending an unrelated murder charge from 2017 after his current bond was revoked by a judge. He is currently in Fort Bend County jail pending a $300,000 bond.

The tiger, named India, will be medically checked and will then head to the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch wildlife sanctuary.

Although there have been conflicting stories how India was found and surrendered to authorities, the bottom line is the big cat is safe and no one was harmed.
