For the last four months, everyone passing a young, partly feral puppy has turned their head or walked away. This is typical of the life of stray dogs in Cleveland, Texas.
“There is no animal control, little education, no enforced laws, lots of breeders and a shelter that holds about 12 dogs.”
ThisIsHouston, an all breed, non profit has been focused in the area with an outreach program offering free spay/neuter opportunities to pet owners.
On Sunday, a Doberman Pincher puppy was brought to the volunteers. The family had been feeding her, but when they brought her over, there had been an old blanket placed over her head because she was frightened and aggressive. Of course, the puppy was partly feral; she had never known any different and had spent most of her young puppy days with no human interaction and little human touch.
“All she knew was pain, loneliness and suffering.”
The puppy, now named Rain started her new life, and even though there is a lot of work to be done, this puppy has a bright future.
ThisIsHouston will continue working in Cleveland and hopefully with everyone’s help prevent other dogs from living miserable lives like Rain had to endure.
