Owl and turtle stuck together untangled by Virginia rescue group

Admin

“This was a first,” the Animal Welfare League of Arlington wrote on their social media page, referring to an owl and a turtle that got stuck together.

On Friday, the organization received a call about an owl in the backyard of a home that was unable to fly. Deputy Animal Control Officer Ryan Robinson went over to investigate. He found the owl had his talon clamped between the top and bottom of a turtle’s shell. He wrapped the animals in a towel and brought them both back to the shelter where Chief of Animal Control Jennifer Toussaint carefully dislodged the owl’s claw and separated the two.

The owl only suffered a minor injury and the turtle was fine. The two were transferred to a licensed wildlife rehabilitation center where they will be released back into the wild.
