In a bizarre incident occurring in Norwalk, Ohio on Monday, the owner of a dog told authorities that “his dog shot itself and he trained the dog to bring a gun to him.”
According to Kron4News, Norwalk Police Captain Jim Fulton said officers at the home of Jonathan George, 31, listened to the man who stated his four-year-old boxer named Lula had been carrying the gun in her mouth when it accidentally fired.
A subsequent breathalyzer test revealed George’s blood alcohol level was “over twice the legal limit for driving” which would have impaired his ability to handle a firearm. After he was arrested, George allegedly admitted he accidentally shot Lula while attempting to unload the gun.
Immediately after the accident, Lula fled from her home; the brown brindle boxer suffered a facial injury and was found not far from where she lived. The Huron County Humane Society stepped up to care for her. The dog underwent surgery and did lose her eye, however she has been resting comfortably and is in the care of a foster home. Bullet fragments remain in Lulu’s head, and she could require surgery in the future.
“She is definitely a fighter. She is definitely a well-socialized dog, she seems to love everybody. She loves attention, and if you’re not petting her, she fussing.”

George faces three misdemeanors – animal cruelty, handling a firearm while drunk and discharging a weapon in a municipality.
