Shelter pup adopted by Boise Police Department to be Wellness Canine

How lucky is Clover, and how lucky is the Boise Police Department as they now are all part of a wellness program aimed to positively impact the personal health and wellbeing of their officers and civilian staff.

According to the department’s police news, on Monday, Clover was officially adopted and received her badge officially joining the BPD’s Bike Unit. Clover, a two-year-old golden retriever, will undergo six weeks of training through the Idaho Capitol City Kennel Club.

Earlier this year, the department recognized the need to continually develop and care for officers over the course of their careers and address the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing in order for these brave men and women to best serve their community.

“Wellness is an important and often overlooked factor when it comes to an officer’s development as they move through their careers. Officers, like anyone else, need the programs and tools to manage the stress they encounter in their day to day lives, alongside the often traumatic events that are unique to this profession.”

Boise Police Chief Ryan Lee

The department researched the benefits of support animals, and with the help of the Idaho Humane Society became acquainted with Clover; soon knowing she would be a great addition to the team.

Clover had her own challenges and had been surrendered to the shelter after her family could no longer afford to care for her and her medical needs. When she arrived at the Idaho Humane Society, she was emaciated caused by two intestinal blockages. Fortunately, surgery was able to correct her problems, and she is now healthy and happy.

Once Clover’s training is completed, she will live at the Downtown Substation and work alongside of her human partner, Officer Maalouf.

How awesome is this?
