Just two days ago, a German shepherd was rescued just in time, after a train conductor spotted the dog lying in the rain along the train train tracks by his leash. The dog was clearly in distress and pain; his blood had been spattered on the gravel next to him. Animal Control was called, and the dog was transported to an emergency veterinarian hospital in the Los Angeles area.
The Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles had been notified of the dog’s terrifying ordeal and reached out to help. The dog had suffered a severed tail, had been covered with maggots and had likely been at the location where he likely had been left for days before having been discovered. The shelter had planned to humanely euthanize the dog because of the severity of his injuries – Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles would not hear of it and made arrangements to pick the dog up and transport him to their partner veterinarian for emergency care.
He has been named Travis and is now being treated at the hospital with an intravenous drip to help stabilize him. He has a series of deep wounds on his head and legs. The maggots have been removed, and his wounds have been cleaned and stitched. Sadly, his tail bone had been completely crushed and left attached only by dried blood and matted fur, and so it had to be removed.
Travis will spend a few more days at the veterinary hospital and remains sedated to help him recover from his traumatic experience.
“We are so grateful to all the people who sent help for his care and all the kind messages. We are hoping for the best.”
