Ohio veteran who served in Afghanistan and his service dog reunited

In Boardman, Ohio, an army veteran who served in Afghanistan and relies upon his service dog who helps him manage PTSD have been reunited. Nick Rankin is ecstatic – his beautiful German shepherd Fossy was found safe.

According to WspaNews, the two had just moved to the area, and Rankin was worried his dog might not know where they lived in order to find his way home. After putting up signs all over asking for help finding the two-year-old dog, Rankin posted on the Facebook page for Youngstown Area Lost and Found Pets.

Fortunately one week later, the dog had been spotted:

“UPDATE 11/10/21 WE HAVE SOMEWHAT LOCALIZED WHERE HE IS AND HAVE SET BAITED TRAPS, IF YOU SEE HIM PLEASE DONT CHASE. CALL BPD OR MYSELF AND KEEP EYES ON HIM. I DONT WANT TO PUSH HIM ANY FURTHER THAN HES ALREADY TRAVELED.”

Amazingly, Fossy was spotted four miles away from Nick’s home in the woods. Good Samaritan Michael Chapel found him. With the help of the Mahoning County Dog Warden, a humane trap was set up in the woods near where the dog had been spotted, and hours later, Fossy was caught.

Fossy was rescued and when found, he was in good health. Seems that the clever pooch had been dining on the food Chapel had left out for the cats.

The best news – the two are back together, and we do love happy stories.
