In Freer, Texas, a heartbreaking photo of a mother dog having just given birth to half a dozen photos quickly caught the attention of rescuers across the country. In no time, the photo showing the mother dog and her puppies sprawled out on a hard, cold concrete floor, went viral. How could any shelter leave a new mother and her puppies like that?
A plea quickly went out for help:
Freer Friends: Can anyone get a hold of any city officials regarding the animal shelter? Evidently there is a female dog who had babies and they are just laying on the cement. There is no one willing to open the shelter and help these babies. Claire Quintanilla – with Brush Country Animal Advocates has tried to get a hold of someone from the city
Fortunately, a short time later two shelter employees from the city offered to help. A small plastic pool and blankets for mom to snuggle up with her puppies were soon to be delivered. The city worker then picked up and set the pool and blankets in the kennel.
This dog should have been in foster but looks like no one wanted to foster. Make sure you’re supporting your local rescues and shelters so that they can provide more than just the basics.

According to social media posts, there is a potential rescue and foster in the works. Information will be updated again as soon as plans are finalized. Everyone cross your fingers. Also, rescuers are trying to confirm how many puppies there are. Information is hard to confirm because the ACO is on vacation.
Please share this dog’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Help is on the way, and it is because people really do care.
