At the Kentucky Humane Society, Hendrix didn’t have a good day. Now it didn’t start out that way at all, because the pooch’s potential family was supposed to meet him today, and he dressed up and was just so excited.
Everyone at the KHS just love Hendrix and looked forward to this day for this especially sweet dog, and hoped he would be starting a brand new life with a loving family. Hendrix sat by the front door and waited and waited – no new family showed up or even bothered to call.
And here we are – wondering why Hendrix hasn’t been adopted yet. He is house-trained, very smart, eager to learn and described as a “big snorting goofball.” He dreams of a home where he could be the only animal, as cats are too tempting for him to chase. Sure he chews up toys, but hey a guy has to have a harmless passion.
“He has the biggest heart out there and so much love to give. Watching him wait excitedly for a family to come, only to be stood up, is devastating. We can’t stand seeing our sweet boy sad.

“Do you hear that happy snorting? Watch out – Hendrix is trotting over to meet you! This four-year-old dude found his way to the Kentucky Humane Society when a rural shelter ran out of space. With honey-colored fur and hazelnut-colored eyes, 57-pound Hendrix is the perfect companion to cozy up with on a cool autumn day! Sadly, as luck would have it, we discovered this happy fellow had heartworms. We treated Hendrix and he had along road to recovery, but he is now completely heartworm free! Hendrix can be quite the explorer, but after he is finished exploring outside – you can often find him lounging around like a rotisserie chicken. You might say this snorting guy looks like a “Pig” Bull Terrier, but Hendrix actually seems to show some characteristics of a Staffordshire Terrier and a Shar Pei. He’s incredibly smart, immensely loyal, adorably chubby (check out those wrinkles), and socially experienced! Hendrix also reminds us of our favorite childhood game: hungry, hungry hippos!
This goofball loves to chomp and taste the world around him. His curiosity and desire to keep his mind busy inspires us to create new, fun things for him to try! He’s excited to find an engaging family who will also help keep him occupied and learning. Speaking of families, Hendrix’s new home should have someone who can give this piggy all the love in the world! But that home shouldn’t have small animal friends like cats because Hendrix is a bit too fixated around them. We’ve also learned that Hendrix enjoys low energy canines that aren’t playful or rambunctious, so we would like him to meet any potential doggy siblings to see if they can be friends. Hendrix is truly a ray of sunshine to his friends…which is pretty much everyone he’s ever met. So what are you waiting for? Come adopt this little hippo! Hendrix is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on his shots.”
