A puppy chasing ducks onto an ice-covered pond found himself in dire straits last week when the ice broke, plunging the pup into the frigid water. But tragedy was averted thanks to a specially trained deputy with Ohio’s Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Sheriff Richard K. Jones, Deputy Evan Depew, a member of Emergency Response Services, was on routine patrol when he received the call about a puppy who had fallen through the ice-covered pond. Deputy Depew used a throw bag to lasso the dog and pull him to safety. The pup was wrapped in an emergency blanket and immediately reunited with his owner.
“We have Deputies trained in Technical Rescue for situations like this. Quick response with the knowledge, skills and equipment to make a difference.” States Sheriff Jones.
