UPDATE: Suffering pup abandoned outside of Richmond shelter on mend as cruelty case investigation continues

Admin

At the Richmond Animal Care and Control in Virginia, Sunday morning turned out to be heartbreaking when the staff arrived and found a sweet, suffering dog had been abandoned outside of the director’s office window. The dog could not stand, was freezing cold, emaciated and had dirt just pouring out of his mouth.

He was rushed to the Virginia Veterinarian Centers where veterinarians and staff administered life-saving treatment to raise his body temperature and blood pressure.

Fortunately, the dog now named Olympus, has been doing well and says thank you to everyone loving him and helping him to recover. He is not out of the woods yet, and updates will follow. For now, it is not known when he will be available for adoption since he has a long road to recovery facing him.

As to the investigation, the case is currently active. Surveillance video showed Olympus’ neglect and cruelty even more heartbreaking than originally thought. Someone intentionally dumped this poor pup in his most crucial time of need.

“…this story just went from bad to worse. 💔 Olympus wasn’t left out front @racc_shelter Sunday morning at 9:30am in the hopes that we would help him. Olympus was dumped at RACC at 2:36am (it was 19 degrees that night) and the video in the comments (warning/graphic/heartbreaking) shows this poor dog trying to follow this person and then collapses. The person (s) in this video footage knowingly left a very sick, emaciated dog in our parking lot in the freezing cold.

Video shows Olympus staggering/falling on our sidewalk for hours before he dragged himself behind our retaining wall out front. 😭 Somehow he managed not to freeze to death in the 7 hours he endured and pulled himself from his hiding spot to the sunshine at 9:30am when we found him.”
