A celebration of life for dog ‘Bear’ who suffered abuse and neglect for eight years

Admin

More than three-weeks ago, street feeders in Cleveland, Texas spotted a dog with a huge mass on his face eating cat food that had been left out on someone’s porch. Drops of blood had been left behind, and ThisIsHouston stepped up to help and sent out an envoy of volunteers to find the dog.

That dog’s name was Bear, and few days after he was captured and evaluated by a team of veterinarian surgeons, Bear underwent surgery to remove his enormous 3.5 pound tumor. The mass turned out to be a necrotic abscess, likely the result of a recent bullet wound. He had been shot in the neck with the entry wound to the right side of his face. The bullet traveled through his neck and became lodged on the left side. An infection from the wound caused the mass or at least part of the swelling and the infection.

And as if being an unwanted stray for eight years wasn’t enough for any dog to become afraid of all humans and carrying around a tumor on the side of his face after some heartless person shot him, Bear was then diagnosed with heart failure and Lymphoma.

Bear has proven himself to be quite the fighter; everyday he opens his eyes and it’s all a true adventure of fun and love now. On Monday, Bear went for his third chemotherapy treatment, but before that came a visit to the beach – pawprints in the sand.

Of course, Bear had to choose which toy to carry around for the day, and yes, Bear – they all belong to you.

Which toy?

No matter where Bear goes, he knows he will never be let down again. And when it’s time for Chemotherapy #3, at least there’s a fun ride in the car.

And when his treatment was over, there came another special surprise, and this special treat obviously cut through all the other issues that once bothered this sweet boy. All is forgotten now, and all is forgiven.

Check out the video with plenty of tail wags and if you guessed – Bear’s first cheeseburger – you’re right!

For as long as Bear wants to live and fights the good fight, his rescuers promise to provide him with the best of care and the most love they can give.

Stay strong Bear.
