The social media site Reddit has all kinds of very interesting “sub-reddits” and for animal lovers there’s r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog which encourages interesting and adorable banter accompanied by photos of dogs being especially funny, talented or in some cases lonely.
Nearly two weeks ago, “pixieclifton” – a sub-reddit fan posted a photo of a black dog with pointy ears and a substantial underbite. She had been named “Bat” and from her looks, there was no argument there; the girl looked like a large bat. Sadly, she was in a kill shelter in Arkansas, and she didn’t seem to have too many adoption prospects.
The post read:
This little derp-faced cutie is up for adoption in my town. If I didn’t already have two dogs, my feet would have wings on the way to the shelter. Meet Bat. A more apt name does not exist.
As it may have been expected, because dog owners are just so cool with huge hearts for the underdogs of the world, Bat’s photo and story went viral. By the next day, the shelter told “pixieclifton” that Bat had four calls that day. Bat wasn’t in danger of being euthanized at that point since the shelter wasn’t full, but we all know circumstances at animal shelters remain very fluid and could change at any time.
“Pixieclifton” appealed to the Reddit users to help find Bat a home, and assured everyone she would be keeping a close eye on this Chow mix. She already had two dogs of her own, and although she wouldn’t let any cruel fate come to Bat, she hoped the dog would find a home soon.
Less than one week after the story about Bat went viral, a shelter volunteer reached out to Pixieclifton to share the good news. A family had already fallen in love with Bat after reading about the dog on Facebook, adopted the pooch and updated everyone with a photo and some information.
Update for those who asked. BAT HAS BEEN ADOPTED! Which one you lucky folks got her?? We demand photos!
A new account u/MynameisBat is all about this sweetheart, and she is adjusting to her new life with her new family and is doing just fine.
We just fetched FOREVER! My sisters like rolling in the grass! They’re so silly
