For months, a pregnant dog survived on her own in the Hot Springs Desert area. Everyplace she went, someone chased her away. And when it was time, all this frightened pup wanted was a safe place to have her puppies.
Sadly, some of the people in the area try to run the stray dogs over with their vehicles; the battle for humanity and kindness continues.
She found a spot under an old shed where predators couldn’t reach her tiny puppies, but never forgot she was unwanted and steered clear of all humans. After all, they were never kind to her, nor did they ever offer her any kind words, affection or even scraps of food to stave off the hunger pains in her stomach. Yet she never wavered from being a good mom and guarded her newborns with her life.
Maybe you weren’t unwanted?
…an angel named Trudy was your advocate. Worrying day and night for your safety. A few kind neighbors set food and water out. ..And when we learned about her babies, we knew this was the key to save her life.

Dream Fetchers Project Rescue, with Faith Easdale, stepped in to help. A volunteer moved slowly under the shed, and one by one the tiny puppies were handed over to their safe futures. They were all placed in a humane carrier, and the trap was set.

But mama was scared to be in the yard exposed for so long. Hours went by and you know us, we weren’t leaving mama behind. A kind neighbor tried to gain her trust and just chased her away, but …

And then came the chance to safely capture the mother. As she fled to her safe place which had been in a corner, the rescuers moved the trap and put the babies behind and waited. When the dog came back, she walked right into the humane trap – not for food, but to care and protect her babies.
The family was reunited, and it only took a few minutes for the mother to realize she was finally safe. She and her puppies were headed to their prearranged foster home – a two-hour drive from the spot where the dog and her puppies were rescued. Once she arrived at her foster home, this dog realized her good fortune.
Once there the most beautiful things happened. You could see fear disappear to her eyes literally closing in sheer relief. And Erin [foster] tells me she’s just been sleeping and sleeping. Can you imagine how that must feel? From being discarded to seeing kindness and compassion.
So you just close your eyes.
