There’s a new resident at the KC Pet Project, a local non-profit in Kansas City, Missouri, dedicated to helping homeless and abused animals. But this latest new guest isn’t quite what you’d expect. Meet Jeffrey – a goat!
Jeffrey, a mountain goat, found himself in a precarious situation after becoming trapped under a local bridge. For hours, he perched on the bridge supports, captivating the city’s attention. The KC Pet Project, the organization responsible for animal control in Kansas City, quickly sprang into action.
It was a delicate situation. Forget a solar eclipse, we were on goat watch!

So how did the goat get there?
According to the rescue organization, Jeffrey, had been a stray with the rescue in March before finding fame and fortune as a household pet when he was adopted last month. Somehow, the call of the wild was too strong, and he decided to test the limits of adventure by jumping the fence of his latest home. Luckily, a family recognized him from the news and reached out, thinking he might just be their long-lost goat who’s been playing hide and seek since February. His name might very well be Chug.
And then came the nail biting rescue:
Jeffrey pulled a stunt that had everyone’s hearts in their throats when he missed a platform jump, got all tangled up in some rope and took a tumble. At one point, he had been suspended in mid air with the rope around his neck. In came the Kansas City Fire Department who swiftly freed and sedated him. With help from his friends on the rescue’s Animal Services team, Jeffrey was carried to safety and transported to the veterinary clinic, where he received the VIP treatment; x-rays and fluids. And just like that, Jeffrey goat was back on his hooves, ready to conquer the world once more with thanks to team members who all stayed late last night to help him.
Whether Jeffrey returns to his original home or finds a new loving family, one thing is certain – this adventurous goat has captured the hearts of Kansas City.
Jeffrey seems to have taken this dramatic adventure and subsequent holding one’s breath adventure in stride. In the last report, now, he’s living the high life—rolling in the hay and soaking up the sunshine in the rescue’s luxurious livestock barn.
