At the BARCS Animal Shelter in Baltimore, Maryland, Aggie’s heartbreaking story raises our awareness of the constant need to be diligent and watch out for those who can’t speak. Just four days ago, Aggie was found all alone in a park on a bitterly cold day curled up under a tree in a ball, shivering from the freezing temperatures and accompanying wind.
Animal Control officers rushed her to emergency veterinarian services where this poor dog was diagnosed with severe and very painful skin issues resulting in the loss of nearly all of her coat as well as lacerations and scabs all over her body including her face. Aggie’s rear legs were very swollen, and it has been difficult for her to even walk.
The injuries to Aggie’s legs are consistent with having been hit by a car. Her x-rays show a fracture in her left leg, and it is possible she may have to have her leg amputated. As to her right leg, although it is not broken, it is partially dislocated from her pelvis.
While we consider the next steps for Aggie, we are keeping her as comfortable and loved as possible. Aggie is sweet and shy in our care. She loves being petted and told how beautiful she is. Though it hurts to stand, she’ll try her best to get up and move towards you so you can scratch her head.
