In Albemarle, North Carolina, a friendly 50-pound dog named Fezco who loves people and other pets, found himself homeless and dumped at the Stanly County Animal Protective Services after his owners said he was “gay” because he had been humping another male dog. His owners said the dog’s behavior wasn’t acceptable.
According to the Stanly County Animal Shelter, Fezco has been adopted by a couple from Charlotte. The dog’s new humans, Steve Nichols and his partner John have been together for more than 30 years.
We’ve been subject to that kind of bigotry and ignorance throughout our lives together, and we couldn’t always do anything about it. We looked at each other and said, ‘We can do something about this.’
Steve Nichols as told to WCCB News
Mounting or “humping” can be a perfectly normal behavior for dogs and is not any indication of a dog’s sexuality. According to the ASPCA, puppies often hump their littermates, people and toys until they are mature. It is not unusual either if the behavior continues even after they are neutered or spayed. Humping can also be a social status or control behavior for some dogs.
Stanly County Animal Protective Services We would like to give a special thank you to Greater Charlotte SPCA for taking Fezco into their rescue! Thankfully, they had a previous adopter step up, and Fezco has been ADOPTED!!! Thank you GCSPCA for making this possible! #SCAPSRescueTransferPartners#StanlyCounty#Fezco
